Title 38 › Part PART V— - BOARDS, ADMINISTRATIONS, AND SERVICES › Chapter CHAPTER 74— - VETERANS HEALTH ADMINISTRATION—PERSONNEL › Subchapter SUBCHAPTER IV— - PAY FOR NURSES AND OTHER HEALTH-CARE PERSONNEL › § 7456
The Secretary may let nurses who are hired under this chapter and who work two regularly scheduled 12-hour shifts between midnight Friday and midnight the following Sunday be treated as if they worked a full 40-hour basic workweek (except when counting full-time equivalents for staffing limits). The nurse’s hourly basic pay for those weekend 12-hour shifts is figured by dividing the nurse’s annual pay by 1,248. Overtime rules apply if a nurse works more than the two scheduled 12-hour shifts, including overtime for work over eight hours on a non‑Saturday/Sunday day or over 24 hours during that Friday–Sunday period, and nurses are not paid extra for time that is inside a regular 12-hour shift unless the Secretary allows additional overtime pay for hours over 40 in an administrative workweek. The Secretary must write rules to put this into effect.
