The Secretary may start or join court cases to get legal title and take possession of property the law allows the Department to accept. The Secretary can take whatever legal steps and pay the costs needed, and those costs are paid like other Department expenses. Any money received by gift, will, sale, or other means for these purposes must be given to the U.S. Treasurer and placed into the General Post Fund.
