Postal Service workers must not give the public any lists of people’s names or addresses from mail records. The only exceptions are other laws or when the Postal Service must share certain information with the Secretary of Commerce for the Census Bureau. The Postal Service must give the Secretary of Commerce the address and delivery-point details the Secretary needs for a census or survey, including postal delivery codes. The Postal Service and the Secretary must agree on terms for sharing the data, and the Postal Service can be paid to cover costs.
