The Director of the National Park Service must manage public spaces made when canals in the original city of Washington were filled, except five areas (including places under the U.S. Army Chief of Engineers as of August 1, 1914, the navy yard, roads/sidewalks, a District property yard, and a sewage pumping station). Those spaces must be set aside as reservations and added to the District of Columbia park system.
