Title 42 › Chapter CHAPTER 7— - SOCIAL SECURITY › Subchapter SUBCHAPTER VIII— - SPECIAL BENEFITS FOR CERTAIN WORLD WAR II VETERANS › § 1012
Defines key words used here, like who is a World War II veteran and what certain benefit terms mean. World War II veteran means a person who served in the U.S. active military or in organized Philippine forces serving with the U.S. under the President’s July 26, 1941 order (including some recognized guerrilla units), with that service before December 31, 1946, and who left the service under conditions other than dishonorable after 90 days or was discharged for a service-related disability. World War II means the period from September 16, 1940, through July 24, 1947. Supplemental security income benefit under subchapter XVI includes State supplementary payments paid by the Commissioner of Social Security under agreements under section 1382e(a) or section 212(b) of Public Law 93–66. Federal benefit rate under subchapter XVI is the monthly SSI cash amount for an eligible person with no income, not counting those State payments. United States means only the 50 States, the District of Columbia, and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands. Benefit income means recurring payments like annuities, pensions, retirement or disability benefits (including veterans’ pay, workers’ compensation, Social Security, railroad retirement, and unemployment insurance) only if a similar payment from the same or a related source was received during the 12 months before the month the person applies.
