Summary

Defines two words used in the chapter. "Auxiliary aids and services" means help that makes communication possible. Examples are sign-language interpreters or other ways to deliver spoken information to people who are deaf, readers or recorded texts for people who are blind, changes to equipment, and similar supports. "State" means each U.S. State and these places: the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, Guam, American Samoa, the Virgin Islands of the United States, the Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands, and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands.

As used in this chapter:
(1)The term “auxiliary aids and services” includes—
(A)qualified interpreters or other effective methods of making aurally delivered materials available to individuals with hearing impairments;
(B)qualified readers, taped texts, or other effective methods of making visually delivered materials available to individuals with visual impairments;
(C)acquisition or modification of equipment or devices; and
(D)other similar services and actions.
(2)The term “State” means each of the several States, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, Guam, American Samoa, the Virgin Islands of the United States, the Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands, and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands.”.
