The Social Security Commissioner may set up automatic data sharing with payroll data companies to help run certain monthly Social Security benefits and Supplemental Security Income (SSI), and to stop wrong payments without having to check other sources. Before doing this, the Commissioner must publish a Federal Register notice explaining how the payroll data will help decide who gets benefits and how much, and that the data are accurate and up-to-date. Payroll data provider — a company or group that collects and keeps employment and wage records. Information exchange — an automated match of Social Security records with those payroll records.
