Summary

The Secretary must study ways to cut how much nuclear waste is made and how long it stays dangerous. The study must check if current technologies can do this and how much research new technologies would need. From that study, the Secretary must send Congress a five-year plan for research and development to reduce waste volume, shorten its toxic life, and lower related hazards. Funding of $4,700,000 is allowed for fiscal year 1993, and whatever money is needed is allowed for fiscal year 1994.
