Title 42 › Chapter CHAPTER 7— - SOCIAL SECURITY › Subchapter SUBCHAPTER XVIII— - HEALTH INSURANCE FOR AGED AND DISABLED › Part Part B— - Supplementary Medical Insurance Benefits for Aged and Disabled › § 1395w–6
Each year starting in 2015, the Secretary must publish easy-to-understand information about physicians and, when appropriate, other eligible professionals showing the Medicare services they gave to beneficiaries. The data must be like the 2012 Medicare Provider Utilization and Payment Data file and shown in a similar way. At minimum it must list how many services a clinician provided (including common services or groupings), the charges submitted and payments made, and a public unique identifier such as an NPI. The data must be searchable by specialty or type, by service characteristics (like volume or groupings), and by location. The information must be added to the Physician Compare website starting in 2016. Eligible professional, physician, and Secretary use the meanings in section 1395w–5(i). Physician Compare means the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services website.
