Title 42 › Chapter CHAPTER 8— - LOW-INCOME HOUSING › Subchapter SUBCHAPTER I— - GENERAL PROGRAM OF ASSISTED HOUSING › § 1437z
Even if other laws say otherwise, public housing agencies with federal housing contracts must give a federal, state, or local police officer a tenant’s current address, Social Security number, and photo (if any) when the officer asks. The officer must give the tenant’s name and tell the agency that finding or arresting the person is part of the officer’s job and the request is proper. The officer must also say one of three reasons: the person is fleeing to avoid prosecution or custody for a felony (or a “high misdemeanor” in New Jersey), is breaking probation or parole, or the officer needs the information to do official duties.
