§14504 Liability for noneconomic loss

Title 42 › Chapter CHAPTER 139— - VOLUNTEER PROTECTION › § 14504

Last updated Apr 6, 2026|Official source

Summary

When a volunteer is sued for something they did while volunteering for a nonprofit or government, the amount they must pay for noneconomic loss depends on how much they were responsible for the harm. Each volunteer defendant only pays the share that matches their percentage of responsibility, and the court will enter a separate judgment for each volunteer for that amount. The judge or jury decides each volunteer’s percentage of responsibility.
