§15872 Assessment of geothermal energy potential

Summary

The Secretary of the Interior must, through the Director of the U.S. Geological Survey and with help from the States, update the 1978 study of geothermal resources and send the updated report to Congress no later than 3 years after August 8, 2005. The Secretary must also do more updates later when new data or better technology make them needed.

Not later than 3 years after August 8, 2005, and thereafter as the availability of data and developments in technology warrants, the Secretary of the Interior, acting through the Director of the United States Geological Survey and in cooperation with the States, shall—
(1)update the Assessment of Geothermal Resources made during 1978; and
(2)submit to Congress the updated assessment.
