The Secretary of Housing and Urban Development can transfer to any State, for use by the National Guard, land and any nonresidential buildings that the government holds under subchapters II to VII of this chapter or other laws about war or veterans’ housing. The transfer can be done by a quitclaim deed and without payment. The United States must be protected or paid back for any costs tied to the transfer that the Secretary finds proper. The deed must say that if the State stops using the land for the National Guard or sells (or tries to sell) it, the United States can take the land back.
