Title 42 › Chapter CHAPTER 149— - NATIONAL ENERGY POLICY AND PROGRAMS › Subchapter SUBCHAPTER IX— - RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT › Part Part E— - Nuclear Energy › § 16277
Run a program to boost the United States' ability to design new reactor technologies using high-performance computer modeling and simulation. Coordinate with federal agencies under the National Strategic Computing Initiative (Executive Order 13702, 80 Fed. Reg. 46177 (July 29, 2015)). Use experts from industry, colleges, and the National Laboratories to build shared software and simulation tools for advanced and space reactors. Make sure simulations can be checked by experiments, work with the Advanced Scientific Computing Research program, build on the Energy Innovation Hub for Modeling and Simulation, and make tools available to researchers and industry. Support research to simulate material and fuel breakdown and to validate models, and avoid duplicating work with other DOE groups (including the National Laboratories and ARPA–E) and industry.
