As of January 1, 2009, the Coast Guard may not buy or install incandescent light bulbs in its facilities. They can be used only if needed for medical, security, or industrial work; to preserve a light fixture put in before that date; or if the Commandant says they are needed for operations. Facility does not include Coast Guard vessels or aircraft.
