The Secretary of Agriculture must buy dry beans, dry peas, lentils, chickpeas, and foods made from them for use in the national school lunch and school breakfast programs when money is available. The goal is to get kids more aware of and interested in pulse crop products, following the Dietary Guidelines for Americans. Eligible pulse crops: dry beans, dry peas, lentils, and chickpeas. Pulse crop product: any food made in whole or part from those crops. By September 30, 2016, the Secretary must evaluate the effort to see if children ate more pulses, which crops and products worked best, any nutrient changes, and other results, then report the findings to the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry and the House Committee on Education and the Workforce. Up to $10,000,000 is authorized to be appropriated for this activity, and the funds remain available until spent.
