The Director can award competitive grants to colleges, universities, nonprofits, or groups of them to fund research about how inflation affects people. Grants can support five kinds of studies, including measuring cost-of-living and wage effects, U.S. international competitiveness, impacts on rural and underserved communities, effects on future generations, and how policy or more government spending affects inflation. The Director must work with other federal agencies to avoid repeating research.
