The Service must try to work with state, local, public, or private agencies when it can. When staff help people settle disputes, those talks and any information must be kept private and not publicized. Staff who helped with a settlement may not later investigate or prosecute that dispute for any agency. Making confidential information public is a misdemeanor punishable by up to $1,000 fine or up to one year in jail.
