§2034 General Manager, Deputy and Assistant General Managers

Summary

The Commission must have a General Manager who is its chief executive officer and who does the administrative and executive work the Commission gives. The Commission appoints and can remove the General Manager. The General Manager appoints a Deputy General Manager with the Commission’s approval. The Deputy fills in for the General Manager when asked and does other tasks the General Manager assigns, and the General Manager can remove the Deputy. The General Manager may also appoint up to three Assistant General Managers (or equivalents) with the Commission’s approval; they do duties the General Manager assigns and can be removed by the General Manager.

There is established within the Commission—
(a)a General Manager, who shall be the chief executive officer of the Commission, and who shall discharge such of the administrative and executive functions of the Commission as the Commission may direct. The General Manager shall be appointed by the Commission, shall serve at the pleasure of the Commission and shall be removable by the Commission.
(b)a Deputy General Manager, who shall act in the stead of the General Manager during his absence when so directed by the General Manager, and who shall perform such other administrative and executive functions as the General Manager shall direct. The Deputy General Manager shall be appointed by the General Manager with the approval of the Commission, shall serve at the pleasure of the General Manager, and shall be removable by the General Manager.
(c)Assistant General Managers, or their equivalents (not to exceed a total of three positions), who shall perform such administrative and executive functions as the General Manager shall direct. They shall be appointed by the General Manager with the approval of the Commission, shall serve at the pleasure of the General Manager, and shall be removable by the General Manager.

Amendments

1964—Subsec. (a). Pub. L. 88–426, § 306(f)(1), struck out provisions which prescribed the compensation of the General Manager. Such compensation is now prescribed by section 5315 of Title 5, Government Organization and Employees. Subsec. (b). Pub. L. 88–426, § 306(f)(2), struck out provisions which prescribed the compensation of the Deputy General Manager. Such compensation is now prescribed by section 5316 of Title 5, Government Organization and Employees. Subsec. (c). Pub. L. 88–426, § 306(f)(3), struck out provisions which prescribed the compensation of the Assistant General Managers. Such compensation is now prescribed by section 5316 of Title 5, Government Organization and Employees. 1957—Subsec. (a). Pub. L. 85–287 designated existing provisions as subsec. (a), designated the General Manager as the chief executive officer of the Commission, and increased his compensation from $20,000 to $22,000 per annum. Subsecs. (b), (c). Pub. L. 85–287 added subsecs. (b) and (c).
