Title 42 › Chapter CHAPTER 6A— - PUBLIC HEALTH SERVICE › Subchapter SUBCHAPTER II— - GENERAL POWERS AND DUTIES › Part Part B— - Federal-State Cooperation › § 244c
The Secretary, with input from the Director of the National Institutes of Health, may expand and coordinate NIH research on cardiomyopathy. That work can include studying causes (like genetic factors and molecular markers), long‑term health outcomes for all age groups, and long-term or retrospective studies to find effective treatments and outcomes. The Secretary must make sure this research does not duplicate work done by other HHS agencies. Not later than 18 months after December 23, 2024, the Secretary, with the NIH Director, must send Congress a report that outlines current NIH research on cardiomyopathy and that identifies a research agenda for adult forms, plans for pediatric research, and the areas of greatest need. The term “cardiomyopathy” has the meaning given in section 244a.
