Title 42 › Chapter CHAPTER 6A— - PUBLIC HEALTH SERVICE › Subchapter SUBCHAPTER II— - GENERAL POWERS AND DUTIES › Part Part O— - Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder Prevention and Services Program › § 280f–1
The Secretary must give grants, contracts, or cooperative agreements to public or nonprofit groups that know about fetal alcohol spectrum disorders (FASD). The goal is to build local, Tribal, State, and national ability to prevent FASD by funding programs that do education, prevention, and service work. Groups that get money may use it to teach the public about the risks of drinking during pregnancy; to be a central place for trusted, evidence-based resources on prevention, identification, and culturally and language-appropriate care across a person’s life; to spread the use of proven screening tools and intervention services and help State, Tribal, and local partners use them; and to give technical help to other related grantees. To get an award, a group must apply to the Secretary when, how, and with the information the Secretary asks for. Awarded groups may hire or partner with other public or nonprofit experts to develop resources, provide services, and deliver training and technical assistance.
