The Secretary of Health must use the CDC and consult the NIH to research and create tested ways to improve health tied to diet and exercise and to prevent and treat weight and eating problems. The work must study how physical activity and diet affect health, find behaviors and risk factors for obesity, measure how common childhood obesity is and what problems and costs it causes later, develop obesity and eating-disorder strategies (for example, anorexia and bulimia), and test nutrition and activity programs for child care and preschool settings. Money may be provided as needed for each fiscal year 2001 through 2005 to carry out these tasks.
