Organizations that get NIH grants to train PhD students must each year tell the NIH Director two things about the NIH-supported graduate students at their school: the percent of admitted students who earn a doctoral degree, and the average time from starting graduate study to receiving that degree. They must also give those same two facts to every student who applies to the program or programs the student is applying to.
