Title 42 › Chapter CHAPTER 6A— - PUBLIC HEALTH SERVICE › Subchapter SUBCHAPTER III— - NATIONAL RESEARCH INSTITUTES › Part Part A— - National Institutes of Health › § 283n
When deciding Shared Instrumentation Grants, the Director of NIH, acting through the Office of the Director of NIH, must look at a few key things: whether the instrument meets the main users’ research needs and provides equipment they can’t otherwise access; whether the users or the institution have the technical skills to operate it; whether there is a clear plan and oversight, including sharing arrangements; whether the applicant will keep supporting and maintaining it; and how much it will be shared and help the research community. Grants must also follow the peer review rules in section 289a.
