Summary

The director must expand and coordinate research about heart attacks, strokes, and other heart and blood vessel diseases in women. The director must also work with other NIH institutes and agencies when they have related work. Research will study why these diseases happen in women, including African‑American and other racial or ethnic minority women. It will cover basic science, how often and how the diseases progress, better tests to diagnose heart problems, new treatments and rehab, ways to prevent disease (like controlling blood pressure, cholesterol, and obesity), and education for patients and health workers about risks and healthy habits such as quitting smoking and exercising.
