Summary

The Director of the Institute may give grants to create a U.S. registry that collects data on how often Alzheimer’s disease happens, to train people to collect that data, and to pay for other related work. To get a grant, an applicant must be an accredited school of medicine or public-health school with experience in collecting epidemiologic data and building disease registries, and must have access to a large patient population that includes people from diverse ethnic backgrounds.

(a)The Director of the Institute may make a grant to develop a registry for the collection of epidemiological data about Alzheimer’s disease and its incidence in the United States, to train personnel in the collection of such data, and for other matters respecting such disease.
(b)To qualify for a grant under subsection (a) an applicant shall—
(1)be an accredited school of medicine or public health which has expertise in the collection of epidemiological data about individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and in the development of disease registries, and
(2)have access to a large patient population, including a patient population representative of diverse ethnic backgrounds.
