The Center's director must give grants to set up general clinical research centers. These centers must provide the buildings, equipment, staff, and training needed for clinical research and to help researchers grow their careers. They must support clinical studies and career development in all parts of the hospital or medical school involved. The director of the National Institutes of Health must also grow what these centers do by using more telecommunications and telemedicine — for example, remote communication and medical care by phone or internet to support research and training.
