Title 42 › Chapter CHAPTER 6A— - PUBLIC HEALTH SERVICE › Subchapter SUBCHAPTER III–A— - SUBSTANCE ABUSE AND MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES ADMINISTRATION › Part Part B— - Centers and Programs › Subpart subpart 3— - center for mental health services › § 290bb–45
The Secretary must fund a Center of Excellence for Eating Disorders through a competitive grant or contract, using the Assistant Secretary to carry it out. The Center must help find, treat, and support people with eating disorders in ways that fit different ages, cultures, and languages. It will run and coordinate the work, and can give subgrants across regions as long as the work is not duplicated. The Center must train and give technical help to primary care and mental health providers so they can screen, offer short early help, and refer people to treatment. It must also train community workers and others who are not clinicians to spot and support people at risk. The Center must make and share training and treatment materials, including for children and groups at higher risk. It must work with other federal health centers and agencies (for example, SAMHSA, HRSA, and CDC) to share training and services. It may link screening steps to health IT, make materials for military and veterans, and consult with the Departments of Defense and Veterans Affairs. Congress authorized $1,000,000 for each of fiscal years 2023 through 2027.
