Federal money for projects under section 2991b or for research, demonstration, or pilot projects under section 2991d must not be given unless certain officials are told or approve. If the project will be on or in an Indian reservation or Alaska Native village, a plan must be sent to that reservation’s governing body and the plan must not be disapproved within 30 days. If the project is elsewhere in a State or Territory (not on an Indian reservation, Alaska Native village, or Hawaiian Homestead), the Commissioner must notify the State or Territory’s chief executive officer. If the project is in a city, county, or other major local government (again, not on an Indian reservation, Alaska Native village, or Hawaiian Homestead), the Commissioner must notify the local governing officials.
