The Secretary must, no later than 180 days after October 30, 2009, finish making three things: a list of life‑threatening infectious diseases (including new ones) that emergency responders might face; simple rules about when those responders could be exposed, based on how emergencies are handled; and rules for how medical facilities should make related decisions. The list must mark which diseases spread by air or aerosol. The Secretary must send the list and rules to State public health officers for sharing and must make them available to the public.
