The Secretary must set up and run a program to regularly check new and emerging technologies that could help public health or safety officials spot and monitor bioterrorist attacks or other public health emergencies. The Secretary must, when possible, look through federal technology programs for useful tools, ask state, local, nonprofit, and private groups for information, and evaluate the technologies found. The Secretary must work with the working group under section 247d–6(a) and other public, nonprofit, and private groups to make evaluation rules and carry out the reviews. Within 180 days after June 12, 2002, and then regularly, the Secretary must send a report about these activities to the House Energy and Commerce Committee and the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee.
