Summary

The Secretary of Health and Human Services, through the CDC Director, can make partnerships with State, local, and Tribal health departments in places at high risk for vector-borne diseases. These partnerships must be based on an application that explains how the health department will build or expand programs. The plan must cover training and workforce development, steps to better detect, report, prevent, and respond to outbreaks, coordination with other agencies and organizations, and how the program’s effectiveness will be measured. Congress authorized $20,000,000 for each of fiscal years 2021 through 2025 to support this work.
