Title 42 › Chapter CHAPTER 61— - UNIFORM RELOCATION ASSISTANCE AND REAL PROPERTY ACQUISITION POLICIES FOR FEDERAL AND FEDERALLY ASSISTED PROGRAMS › Subchapter SUBCHAPTER II— - UNIFORM RELOCATION ASSISTANCE › § 4624
An agency must pay someone who is forced to move from a home they actually lived in for at least 90 days before talks to buy it began, or before another event the lead agency sets, if that person can’t get the other relocation payment. The money is to help them rent a similar replacement home for up to 42 months, and the total can’t be more than $7,200, as adjusted by regulation. The agency can pay in installments, and when the person has low income the agency must consider that in figuring the payment. A person who is eligible can instead use the payment for a down payment and other buying costs to purchase a decent, safe, and sanitary replacement home. The agency may allow the person to get the full maximum payment for that purpose.
