Title 42 › Chapter CHAPTER 77— - ENERGY CONSERVATION › Subchapter SUBCHAPTER III— - IMPROVING ENERGY EFFICIENCY › Part Part A— - Energy Conservation Program for Consumer Products Other Than Automobiles › § 6299
The Commission and the Secretary can issue legal orders called subpoenas to make people come and testify and to get books, records, papers, and other documents. They can give oaths. Witnesses must be paid the same fees and travel money as in U.S. courts. If someone refuses a subpoena, the Commission or the Secretary can ask a United States district court where that person lives or does business to order them to testify or hand over documents. Ignoring that court order can be punished as contempt. Any information someone gives to the Secretary or the Commission under this part is not treated as "energy information" as defined in section 796(e)(1) of title 15 for the purposes of any verification examination the Comptroller General is allowed to do under section 6381 of this title.
