Summary

The President, with Senate approval, must appoint a Director to lead the Office and pay that person at Executive Schedule Level II. The President may also appoint up to four Associate Directors, with Senate approval, paid up to Level III; they carry out duties the Director assigns. One of those Associates may be named the U.S. Chief Technology Officer.

(a)There shall be at the head of the Office a Director who shall be appointed by the President, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate, and who shall be compensated at the rate provided for level II of the Executive Schedule in section 5313 of title 5.
(b)The President is authorized to appoint not more than four Associate Directors, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate, who shall be compensated at a rate not to exceed that provided for level III of the Executive Schedule in section 5314 of such title. Associate Directors shall perform such functions as the Director may prescribe.
(c)Subject to subsection (b), the President is authorized to designate 1 of the Associate Directors under that subsection as a United States Chief Technology Officer.
