Summary

The Secretary may require any owner, operator, or controller of an electric powerplant, or anyone else covered by this law, to send any reports or information needed to carry out the law and to make sure people follow its rules. The rules in section 796(d) of Title 15 apply to information collected here just as they apply to energy information under section 796 of Title 15. When the law gives duties to the President or the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, they get the same power to require information instead of the Secretary. For emergency purposes and under section 8374(b), the Secretary must get data to show how much natural gas each electric utility used as its main energy source in calendar year 1977 (must collect that within 6 months after August 13, 1981) and must collect, every six months, how much natural gas each utility used in the previous six-month period. One paragraph of the original text was later repealed (Pub. L. 104–66, Dec. 21, 1995).
