Title 42 › Chapter CHAPTER 105— - COMMUNITY SERVICES PROGRAMS › Subchapter SUBCHAPTER II— - HEAD START PROGRAMS › § 9842
Recipients of federal money under this program must keep whatever records the Secretary requires. Those records must show how the money was used, the total cost of the project, how much other funding paid for the project, and any other papers needed for a proper audit. The Secretary and the U.S. Comptroller General, or their authorized representatives, may examine or audit any books, documents, or records related to that financial help. Each recipient must keep and send the Secretary, every year, a full accounting of its administrative costs, including a clear statement showing how much grant money paid salaries and how much (if any) came from other funds. Within 30 days after an audit done under chapter 75 of title 31 (the Single Audit Act of 1984) is completed, the recipient must send the Secretary the audit management letter and any findings that concern the Head Start program. Recipients must also give any other documents the Secretary asks for.
