Title 43 › Chapter CHAPTER 5— - LAND DISTRICTS › § 129
The Secretary of the Interior may approve a reasonable rent payment for each consolidated land office. When the Secretary decides it is needed, they may also approve hiring one or more clerks and pay them a reasonable daily rate for the time needed to handle current public business. Those clerks must be paid from any surplus fees allowed under section 84. If no surplus exists, payment may come from the appropriation for incidental expenses of district land offices. No clerk can be paid unless the Secretary first approves the hire.
