Title 43 › Chapter CHAPTER 35— - FEDERAL LAND POLICY AND MANAGEMENT › Subchapter SUBCHAPTER II— - LAND USE PLANNING AND LAND ACQUISITION AND DISPOSITION › § 1711
The Secretary must make and keep an up-to-date list of all public lands and their resources and other values, like outdoor recreation and scenic beauty, and give extra attention to environmentally sensitive areas. The list must be updated to show changes and new values. Doing the list does not by itself change how the land is managed or used. When money and staff are available, the Secretary must locate the boundaries of public lands, mark them for the public when appropriate (for example, with signs and maps), and share inventory data with state and local governments so they can plan and regulate nearby non‑Federal lands.
