§2008 Procedures for waiver of Federal law

Title 43 › Chapter CHAPTER 38— - CRUDE OIL TRANSPORTATION SYSTEMS › § 2008

Last updated Apr 6, 2026|Official source

Summary

The President can pick parts of federal law to be waived so building or running a crude oil transport system approved under section 2007 or the Long Beach‑Midland project is easier, if he decides it is in the national interest. He cannot waive any antitrust laws. He must send any proposed waiver to both the House and the Senate. The waiver only takes effect if Congress enacts a joint resolution during the first 60 calendar days of continuous session after both chambers receive the proposal. The joint resolution must state which laws are being waived and the date the President sent the proposal. Rules for considering the resolution follow sections 719f(c) and 719f(d) of title 15, except paragraph (2) of 719f(d) does not apply, and where 719f(d) mentions “an Alaska natural gas transportation system” it should instead read “a waiver of provisions of law.”
