Title 43 › Chapter CHAPTER 46— - GEOSPATIAL DATA › § 2807
The Committee must run an online service called the GeoPlatform that gives the public access to maps and location data and the information about that data (metadata). The GeoPlatform must work over the internet and other networks, use a common interface, include metadata and download access for all geospatial data collected directly or indirectly by federal agencies covered by the law, and offer programming tools and standards that harmonize different sources. The Chairperson will decide how much of those tools are made public. The GeoPlatform can include non‑federal data if the Committee agrees, but it must not host proprietary or licensed data unless the data owner allows it. The Chairperson must name one agency to manage and run the GeoPlatform under the Committee’s direction. Federal agencies may still publish their own agency‑specific or audience‑targeted data and services outside the GeoPlatform.
