Gives plain meanings for key words used in sections 31a through 31h. Advisory committee means the committee set up under section 31d. Association means the Association of American State Geologists. Director means the Director of the United States Geological Survey. Education component means the education part of the geologic mapping program described in section 31c(d)(3). Federal component means the Federal part of the geologic mapping program described in section 31c(d)(1). Geologic mapping program means the National Cooperative Geologic Mapping Program established by section 31c(a). Secretary means the Secretary of the Interior. State includes the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the Northern Mariana Islands, American Samoa, Guam, and the Virgin Islands. In sections 31a to 31h of this title:

(1)The term “advisory committee” means the advisory committee established under section 31d of this title.

(2)The term “Association” means the Association of American State Geologists.
