The Secretary may sell land on a federal irrigation project to farmers or settlers who live there. Prices must meet an independent appraisal the Secretary approves. Sales can be private or at public auction and follow terms the Secretary sets. A buyer may not get more than 160 acres under these sale rules, or more than 320 acres total on the project. The rule covers tracts entirely unproductive and tracts that, because they include unproductive land, cannot support a family or pay water charges.
