Title 43 › Chapter CHAPTER 12— - RECLAMATION AND IRRIGATION OF LANDS BY FEDERAL GOVERNMENT › Subchapter SUBCHAPTER VII— - EXCHANGE AND AMENDMENT OF FARM UNITS › § 451
If a person living on an unpatented farm unit in a federal irrigation project is found by the Secretary of the Interior to be too small to support a family, they can apply on time to swap that unit for another unclaimed public farm unit in the same or a different project, or for any available farm unit the Secretary agrees to. They will get homestead credit for the time they lived there, the work they did, and the crops they raised on the first unit. If they already gave acceptable final proof of those things for the first unit, they do not have to prove them again for the new one. These exchange rights cannot be transferred to anyone else.
