Title 43 › Chapter CHAPTER 18— - SURVEY OF PUBLIC LANDS › § 759
Settlers or landowners may ask the Secretary of the Interior to have a township or other public land surveyed. People who live in or legally hold non‑mineral or non‑reserved townships, holders of coal lands who are allowed to enter, and owners or grantees of public lands can file a written request and put enough money in a U.S. depository to pay the survey and related costs. An agency the Secretary names can do the survey under his instructions and must send the results to the proper local land office. A survey request will only be approved if the township lies inside the area of the regular public surveys that follow existing standard lines or bases.
