Title 43 › Chapter CHAPTER 22— - RIGHTS-OF-WAY AND OTHER EASEMENTS IN PUBLIC LANDS › § 956
The Secretary of the Interior may, under rules he sets, allow use of rights‑of‑way across public lands (not inside national forests, parks, military or Indian reservations) for tramroads, canals, or reservoirs. The permit covers the water and fifty feet on each side (or fifty feet each side of a tramroad center line) and can be given to U.S. citizens or citizen groups who mine, quarry, work in timber/lumber, or supply water for domestic, public, or other beneficial uses.
