Title 44 › Chapter CHAPTER 19— - DEPOSITORY LIBRARY PROGRAM › § 1905
Government publications picked from lists made by the Superintendent of Documents are sent to official depository libraries. Senators, Representatives, and the Resident Commissioner of Puerto Rico can name libraries to get these publications. The Commissioner of the District of Columbia and the governors of Guam, American Samoa, and the Virgin Islands can also name libraries. A Representative or the Resident Commissioner may name up to two libraries in their area. Each Senator may name up to two extra libraries in their State. Before a new library is added, its head must give a written reason saying the extra library is needed. That statement must be signed by the heads of all current depository libraries in the congressional district or by the State or Commonwealth library authority. The Senator, Representative, or Resident Commissioner must send that paperwork to the Superintendent of Documents. The DC Commissioner may name two libraries in DC. The Governors of Guam and American Samoa may each name one. The Governor of the Virgin Islands may name one on Saint Thomas and one on Saint Croix.
