Title 44 › Chapter CHAPTER 35— - COORDINATION OF FEDERAL INFORMATION POLICY › Subchapter SUBCHAPTER III— - CONFIDENTIAL INFORMATION PROTECTION AND STATISTICAL EFFICIENCY › Part Part C— - Statistical Efficiency › § 3575
Lets the Census Bureau, the Bureau of Economic Analysis, and the Bureau of Labor Statistics share business data only for statistical uses, while keeping that information private. Federal statistics help many people make decisions, like policymakers, businesses, investors, workers, and consumers. The agencies must get more efficient, but some laws now limit data sharing. When reporting is easier, more businesses respond and statistics improve. Sharing data helps the agencies classify firms, fix errors, track new and closed businesses, and keep samples up to date. Public Law 94–472 let them share data on foreign-owned companies and expand industry detail from 135 to over 800 industries without asking for more from respondents. Part B keeps strong protections for confidentiality.
