Title 46 › Subtitle Subtitle II— - Vessels and Seamen › Part Part A— - General Provisions › Chapter CHAPTER 21— - GENERAL › § 2117
An enforcement officer can take action when a vessel is unsafe or not following its certificate. The officer can remove a vessel’s required certificate if the vessel is being run in a way that doesn’t match that certificate. If the vessel does not have the required certificate on board, the officer can order the person in charge to return to a mooring and stay there until the vessel follows the rules. If the officer sees the vessel being operated in an especially dangerous way, the officer can require the person in charge to take immediate, reasonable steps to protect people on board, including returning to a mooring and staying until the danger is fixed.
