Within 1 year after this law is passed, the Secretary, working with the Secretary of Health and Human Services and other federal agencies, must make rules for owners of vessels covered by section 3507 to put automated external defibrillators (AEDs) on those vessels. The rules must require working AEDs in clearly marked spots throughout the ship, keep them available to passengers and crew in an emergency, and make sure the AEDs or nearby equipment let people quickly contact the vessel’s medical staff. Owner — same meaning as in section 3507.
